Ah, no, I wouldn't just turn up and hope to find a place - I meant that I arranged it on the forum beforehand, when people advertised that they were looking for a roommate. That step is very important, 'cause you'd be very lucky to find a room on the day!

Ideally, I'd say it's nice to come with friends, just because you already know someone that way, but I turned up on my own for my first YCon - sure as hell didn't spend much time alone!

You should definitely check out the "Roommates/Carpools" forum section, Emilime. People very often post free places for folks that they may have in their rooms at-con and it's a very good way to shave a lot of money off of the expense of the trip.
