Stories of YCon 10 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Hi all!

I'm posting on here as a favour for a friend. Long story short, they're running a yaoi panel at Amecon (the UK's largest convention), and they're thinking of mentioning Yaoicon in it. Said friend has never been, though, and so wants my input.

Obviously, he could talk about the bishies and their various events. He could talk about the fantastic people who attend, the great sense of community among the con-goers etc, but then it'd end up turning into an advert for YCon, which is really a bit of a no-go.

So what we want instead are stories. Anecdotes. Tales. Memories. Those silly things you often bring up when telling people about YCon. One example I thought of, for instance, was, "Corn."

I've attended Yaoicon in California for several years now, and there's a catchphrase that has entered common use there: "Corn."

The reason?

During one of the early years, during one of the events, something was horribly delayed (or similar), and one of the crowds members yelled in jest, "This sucks!"

"Ah, you forget honey, this is Yaoicon - sucking is a good thing."

A brief debate ensued as they tried to establish what would be a suitable word, and eventually they decided on 'corn'. The use of the term has come to be common-place at Yaoicon and among its attendees, and has grown to such a point that there are even Cult Of Corn hats, t-shirts and badges available, and t-shirts that say 'Corn - ribbed for his pleasure.'

The reason for choosing 'corn'? That one famous scene in Boku no Sexual Harrassment...

And~ cue video clip of said scene XD (Incidentally, since I've only heard that story second-hand, can anyone confirm/refute details there for me?)

So that's what I'm after. Stuff you remember specifically from YCon, that has some attachment to yaoi fandom in general. I know there's the panel 'Foods corrupted by yaoi' for instance; anything anyone can mention about that?

Many thanks in advance for any and all suggestions!

I could be misremembering, but the first time I recall the "corn = this sucks" analogy was the first Bishie Bingo when it was determined that a card that sucked was "corn." It kind stuck. ^_^

Though obviously corn has a life of its own at the con beyond that context, simply because of Boku no (I think /that's/ where the clothing, earrings, etc. come from, more than "this sucks&quot.

Hey, Bazu, would you happen to know a Yaoi fan by the name of Jay? He lives in my state of Georgia, and he said he knows a guy from England that attends yaoi con every yr dressed as neko . . . Coincidence?

I do happen to a know a guy from Georgia, called Jay, who's a yaoi fan... So if it's not the same guy, it's a heck of a coincidence!

I've been trying to get him to attend for the last three years, but college is always in the way, it seems...

Cool beans Yeah, I met this articulate Jay-bird through some friends a little bit before a convention in our state. We are actually “planning”to go to Ycon this year. I’ll check w/him to make sure it’s not a coincidence. Itty-bitty world! How was last years?
