Yaoi-Con 2008 | A Celebration of Male Beauty & Passion in Anime & Manga

I thought it might be nice to dedicate a thread to people telling us about themselves. Y'know... how many years they've been attending Yaoi-Con, who they've dressed up as, what awards they've won, what they like and do for fun, and what other conventions they attend. So, I'll start things off... and I hope people do the same~!

My name is Chris... but feel free to call me Irvine or whatever else if that's how you know me, or if you prefer to call me by another name. I don't mind. ^^ I'm 26, and I've lived in the San Francisco Bay Area all of my life... except for a year where I lived on campus at San Diego State University. Yeah... that was a very, very good year. ^_______^

A large part of my free time used to be devoted to anime. I've been part of the staff of most anime conventions in California, and I even ran one for the first time last year. Since then, I accepted a tech job in Santa Clara where I live. It still takes up most of my free time. Regrettably, I no longer staff or volunteer anime conventions now. XD Ah well.

I've also been a promoter, and gotten paid to do what I love. The most recent example of that was when the Appleseed movie (Masamune Shirow) was re-released here. I got to pimp the movie, and got paid a lot to do it... along with free stuff~! I still have some full-size double-sided movie posters from that. I promote anime because I really like it. ^^

I don't remember exactly how I heard about Yaoi-Con, and totally came on a whim the second year. The first day I was there, I found myself wishing that I had known about the first year... and I haven't missed one since. I look forward to this convention all year long, every year... and always leave smiling and wishing that it had lasted longer.

Yaoi-Con is one of my favorite things in the whole world. I also like sashimi, spicy foods of all sorts, console role-playing games, long red hair, chocolate, and petting cats. =^-^= So, that's me (well, the non-perverted part)... now please tell us about you. Also, feel free to ask me anything at all that you might want to know.

I was actually thinking about starting one of these threads, but I suppose it's better that a Y-Con vet got the ball rolling. Maybe this should be stickied?

My nickname's Mina, and you can call me that or one of my usernames (Miss Citrus and Pika Pika Queen are the two most common ones). I'm 18 years old, female, and currently reside about 30 minutes away from Seattle. This year will be my first Yaoi-Con, and I'm unbelievably excited.

I've been attending Sakura-Con for the past three years, so I'm not new to the convention-scene. You can check out the cosplay I've done through the links in my sig. KaitouHotaru, who I call Ace, is my cosplay partner-in-crime. <3 We'll be working together once again to make costumes for Y-Con.

Hmm, what else? Oh yes, I've been a yaoi/BL fan since I was in middle school, when I jumped on the Gundam Wing bandwagon. While I'm not as into it as I was when I was 14, it's still a fandom I enjoy. Right now my big fandom is Saiyuki (or anything by Kazuya Minekura, really), but I've had a tough time finding good fanfiction for it. If you have any recs, please let me know! And I have a "thing" for rival pairings, for future reference. ;3

My hobbies are drawing, reading fanfiction and manga, writing (or entertaining the idea of it, anyway), watching anime and movies, web design, making costumes, playing video games, and singing/dancing terribly along with loud music. xD I also really enjoy playing tennis, and hiking/backpacking, but I haven't had too many chances to do any of that recently. I love chicken, Chinese food and genuine ramen, but cannot stomach any kind of seafood (which means that yes, I don't like the vast majority of Japanese food >.&lt. I collect manga artbooks, general merchandise from my favorite series/games (which include Evangelion, Saiyuki and FF8), and anything Pikachu. x3

My name is Kellie, but you can call me Neon. I'm 24 (Which I had to count out. I forgot how old I am >&lt and shy when I meet new people but I usually open up later. I live just slightly outside of Albuquerque, which is ok (a bit boring >&lt.

I've been to Yaoicon-01, 02 & 03 (I wish I was able to go to 04 & 05). This will be the fourth con I've been to and I am so excited, since its something to get me through each day of work. I was introduced into Yaoi back in highschool by a dbz yaoi fic which grew an obsession that is now. I'm still searching for good Gaara x Naruto fics (They're so hard to find).

I love to draw and I envy those who can draw boys/guys since I tend to draw girls more. Naruto, Rock Lee, Tennis no Oujisama & Recca no Honoo are my loves, but I'm willing to watch anything. I love Doujinshi and collect whatever I can get my paws onto. I'm really looking forward to getting some Inui Sadaharu x Kaidoh Kaoru doujinshi and see if I can find at least one Gaara x Naruto doujinshi (even though Sasuke x Naruto is creeping up on me) and maybe Itachi x Naruto (Or anyone x ukeNaruto).

Fanlistings are my passion as well as my lovely domains (and a slight obession with tattoos, I'm tempted to get one when the con is over). I wish I could cosplay, but I really can't sew but thats ok. I don't really have a favorite food, but I'll try new things. I adore lions, my puppy and zombie movies.

I hope to meet a bunch of new people and make friends

^^ My name is Hiba Akaiko (For those of you who don't know japanese, that'd be Akaiko Hiba in america, Akaiko being my first name) I've been to ycon 2003 2005 and I;ll be there at 2006 even if I have to hitch hike to get there, running from the cops the whole way ~~. Any who...I used to be obssessed with DBZ yaoi, which is where I really got started..(And I got obsessed with it simply because it was the first anime I saw at the store that had men with muscles and I needed something to study off of while learning to draw the male form) Now I'm crazy over Full Metal alchemist!

I am currently drifting between homes...Southern Cali and Utah, salt lake area....so I don't really know which one to put ~~. I'm an artest by trade, but I like to sew, study languages and read and write in my free time. I'm friends with Neon, so I'll probably be hanging out with her ^^.

Yosh! Alright. I'm Jamie aka Dou Monkey aka Prop Monkey. I'm the Duo that goes zipping across the stage and grabs an props that get dropped. Why? Cause it's fun to run in evil boots! Anyway. My first YCon was 04. Believe it or not I came with my parents. Mom knew what yaoi was, Dad didn't have a clue. Yeah. I thought he was gonna kill me once he realized it. I was actually very shy that first year until Lestat cosplayer got a hold of me. Then I opened up and was molest by him and Irvine. ^^

Last year I was a volunteer whore and actually only went in the dealer's room once. And I was on a leash so I couldn't shop. XD Probably a good thing. Anyways I plan to volunteer again this year and have a very ebil cosplay skit planned.
