This is going to be my first Y-con, and I'd really like not to be totally screwed over by something so stupid.

You don't need the confirmation letter to pick up your badge. It's a receipt. If we have any trouble finding your badge or if we say you didn't register, you whip that letter out and smack us with it because it's your proof of purchase
