I'm not a staff member, but I remember reading the registration FAQ's

(ganked word for word from the registration FAQ's)

"Q: When I photocopy my driver's license, the birth date isn't legible. What do I do?
A: Use another form of ID on which your photo, name and birth date are visible. Try your passport or a combo like school ID plus birth certificate."

So it sounds like what you're proposing is within their suggestion. Hopefully a staffer will get back to you and confirm. Good luck!
