Well, certain cosplays demand an arse-load of effort, else they end up just failing.
Take Konoe as an example - by the looks of things, those bracers are made of either formed leather or sculpted plastic; absolutely body-hugging, but open on one side, so it's hardly an elastic effect doing it. I lack the means (or money) to do either of those, so I had to work out a way to make cotton basically defy gravity no matter which way I positioned my arm - ditto Roy's collar, as mentioned.
Besides which, it's what engineers do
