Wow, this has become such a heated debate.
This was my first yaoi con, but this is by far not my first ever con. For the most part I agree with the lot that favor the topic that the convention is about Yaoi and not the location. The convention could move to Corn Town Idaho and it would still be about Yaoi and it would still be yaoi con at its basics. I went to Anime Vegas and ended up spending more time on the strip than at the convention. While I dont feel that the purpose of the location is to trap the convention goers, I do feel that having a good location does help.
If some of you are still butt sore about not having a chance to go to J-Town SF then hit up the forums, ask around the con, and plan something out for next year. I had a few friends, two of them bishie (keep in mind bishie have little time at yaoi con to call their own), that went up to downtown SF. You could have been in the car with one of them (granted you help with parking and gas). There are a lot of locals that go to this con and have cars. Most can tell you where the best places to eat are.
My point is for those of us who drive to this con, we dont want higher priced hotel rooms, parking fees, and the pain in the ass of driving through SF. For those of you flying in, if the shuttle system is fix there should not be anything to complain about. Ask around, find a ride to SF, and you just might make a new friend. Hell, they might pick you up from the airport next time (instead of having to deal with the shuttle). For the locals coming in by bart, you might want to car pool or drive instead of walking around with all of your stuff around on bart.
As for the location, there were about what 2000+ people at Yaoi con this year. Only about 700 got to see yaoi con's main event, the bishi auction. From what I hear a lot more people wanted to see it but couldnt. If anything I do not really care about the convention location as much as I care that everybody at the con get the opportunity to enjoy what they want to enjoy at the con. I would hate to go to a convention and be told I cant see what I wanted to see because there was not enough room, i was in the wrong line, tickets were sold out, or any reason. I feel everyone should have an opportunity to see the AMV, auction, bingo, and costume contest thing. So my only complant would be that Yaoi con is too big for this hotel.
