Yaoi-Con 2008 | A Celebration of Male Beauty & Passion in Anime & Manga

Yeah... um, that entire attitude does sound extremely selfish. You do know on the internet there exist a bajillion places to order 'Japanese' related items and books, if you really -need- them so badly. This is coming from a person who lives in IDAHO and is also studying Japanese language so, no, I don't have stores nearby where I can buy these kinds of things. I do not pay to fly down to Yaoicon so I can go tour San Fran. I pay to experience the events, cosplay, hang out with other guests, and maybe buy a few things here and there at the swapmeet/fanmarket/dealer's room. To be frankly honest, I don't have time during the con to go out, hell I hardly ate at all. It's enough just keeping up with all the things to do at the con.

As for the doujinshi selection, I don't know about everyone else, but I found some very very nice Kuro Shitsuji doujinshi. The anime just started after the con, so I hadn't expected it to gain such fandom already (props to the cosplayers I saw). At least here the doujin is actually labelled 'shounen ai' or 'yaoi'. I've been jipped on fluff plenty of times elsewhere. These were nice and explicit. ^^

I love the current location, and I didn't find it overly crowded at all? I've been in much more poorly managed/crowded locations. My friend and I were even able to gain tickets to all 3 main events, and we got in the line about 5 minutes late. I can see it needing to be expanded in the future, however I really don't like the thought of downtown SanFran for reasons previously stated by others. I'm sure it's hard to find establishments that will actually put up with this kind of event, so if the San Mateo Marriot will continue to have us, more power to them.
