"Regarding venue, we've always been on the lookout for a bigger venue with more space, but actually finding one that doesn't demand 6-digit meeting space fees for the space we require is dang near impossible. Trust us, we've been down that road every year for 8 years."
I certainly understand this.
And while I have presented a bit of criticism, I would like to emphasize that Yaoi Con is a con I do as a vendor/artist by choice, because it's fun, because the staff rock and the fans rock (you'd be amazed at how rude some attendees can be towards dealers and artists at events - I just don't get that feeling YaoiCon) and because I enjoy the specificity of the subject matter. SURE I'd love to make it a more profitable event for myself, but that's not necessarily something the con can change without sacrificing something else I enjoy. And I certainly don't expect con staff to try and compensate for a fearful, lagging national economy.
