Bishounen Auction

Once Upon A Time, In A Far Away Land there lived a Princess who was all that was Good and Fair and Beautiful. . . .

Okay, so the land actually kind of looked like San Francisco... And the Princess might have a little more, ah . . . equipment than one might expect to find under "her" gown. But, hey! This is YAOI-CON! And we wouldn't have it any other way!

As you might have noticed, our lovely Mistresses take the stage in gorgeous costumes that appear to have a certain theme. Sometimes our wonderful Bishounen even get in on the act, and this year we want to let all our attendees in on the action.

Some of you may have already guessed that this year, the Yaoi-Con Bishounen Auction is tackling the colorful, flamboyant, and age-old lands of our (perhaps slightly misbegotten) youth: Fairy Tales!

So if you're feeling in the mood: dust off your wings, your wands, and your glass slippers. Then shimmy into those gowns, break out the glitter, and show your love for your favorite story while Yaoi-Con transports you to a magical world that can only exist behind closed doors!

Just make sure you ask your Fairy Godmother for a little leeway on that Midnight curfew. . . . We'd hate for you to turn into a pumpkin before you're tucked safely back in bed! ^.~

Please note: Video cameras are forbidden in the Bishounen Auction!

Interested in being one of our bishies and strutting your stuff on stage for our attendees' pleasure? Hang on tight for the application, appearing here soon!

BISHOUNEN FAQs

What's a "bishounen"?

Bishounen is Japanese for "beautiful boy." Although all participants in the Bishounen Auction are adults at or over the age of 18, the term bishounen has come to mean any beautiful or attractive male, regardless of age, here in the Americas.

The term biseinen, or "beautiful man" might be more appropriate, but it's just not as fun to say.

Bissie Auction. See? Not nearly as much fun as Bishie Auction. ^.~

Do you actually SELL these hapless bishounen?

Much like a charity bachelor auction, the Bishounen Auction is a fundraising activity for the convention. The bishounen willingly offer themselves up for the auction and agree to abide by a very stringent set of rules to protect both themselves and their winning bidder(s). The winning bidder(s) also sign an agreement that affords the bishounen, among other things, the ability to nullify the winning bid if he feels uncomfortable or harassed.

A more complete set of rules and guidelines is available on the Bishounen Application or you may contact the Bishounen Auction Coordinator if you have further questions. [ CONTACT ]

What is required of the bishounen before and after bidding?

We prefer that our bishounen to be creative and put on some type of act, a show, as you will. While we do like acts that tantalize, we require that clothes stay on, at least minimally. ^^

After the bishounen is won, all he is required to do is stand and be pretty. ^^
Winning bidders may choose to take the bishie to the convention Dance, or out to eat for a late dinner/early breakfast. Or they may simpy hang out in the lobby. It's entirely up to both the bishounen and bidder. We just require that any activities that do take place are completely consensual on the part of both bishie and bidder.

But it's so demeaning to men!

Just ask the men who are participating if they feel demeaned. The goal of the auction isn't to sell "fresh meat" or encourage any kind of sexual activity — it's simply a fun, outrageous way to (1) have a good time and (2) raise funds for the convention and chosen charities. The men who agree to be Con Bishounen are admired and appreciated by us all. They're great sports, really.

Why can't women cross-dress and be bishounen, too? It's unfair and discriminatory!

The whole point to the auction (and, indeed, the convention) is the appreciation and celebration of males. We feel to include females dressed as males (even if they're really, really attractive males) does not serve the purpose of the event. This decision was not a rash or thoughtless decision — it was made after allowing it at one point in time and feeling that the concept just wasn't a good fit for the auction. Sorry, ladies!
